Founded in 1997, the Oregon Program Evaluators Network (OPEN) is an organization for professionals who are involved with or interested in program evaluation. OPEN allows for the exchange of ideas and information to promote and encourage high-quality evaluation practices. The members of OPEN represent a wide variety of government agencies, non-profits, universities, and private consulting firms.

Michael Quinn Patton is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in the evaluation  and has written several books that provide the standards of practice for evaluators.

Patton's latest book, Developmental Evaluation: Applying Complexity Concepts to Enhance Innovation & Use, outlines an approach to monitoring and supporting social innovations.

OPEN wil be hosting the Oregon book release at an afternoon reception during the conference to include refreshments & a book signing. Copies of the book will be available at discounted rate as part of the conference registration process.

Call for Proposals

OPEN's Program Planning Committee invites proposals to present afternoon breakout sessions at OPEN?s Annual Conference, September 22, 2010. Proposals are sought on topics such as new frameworks and approaches to evaluation, data and analytic tools (both qualitative and quantitative), guidelines for effective results and presentation, strategies to help users make the most of evaluations, and other skill development topics. Ideas for presentations might include, but are not limited to: metrics, scales and measurement development; analyzing visual data; working collaboratively across organizations; RCT and contemporary alternatives; adapting tools from other fields; meeting evaluation needs with marginalized populations; taking benchmarking to the next level in the current social and economic context.

Proposals will be selected based on their: Practical utility of the concept; rigorous development of the tool or process (i.e., practices that you have used and are beginning to evolve that have not proliferated toothers in the field, or established practices that may be taking on anew form or purpose); Clarity and thoughtful development of the proposal; and practical experience with the topic

 All proposals must include: Learning objectives; Narrative summary of the session content and description of thepresentation format; and References to resources where participants may find additional information about the topic

Proposal narratives should be no longer than 500 words in length.  We encourage proposals targeted at skilled evaluators, as well as thosewho are new to the field.  Workshop-style sessions will lastapproximately 90 minutes in length.  Due to the limited number ofsessions available at the conference, all proposals will also beconsidered for presentation at a stand-alone OPEN event during thecoming year, such as a brownbag, short workshop, or presentationstrand.

Proposal Submission:

Proposals must be submitted by August 6, 2010.  Presenters willbe notified by August 27, 2010 if they have been selected.  Questionsmay be directed to proposals@oregoneval.org

All proposals must include in the text of the proposal:

    Name(s); Title, Organization, Phone, E-mail, Mailing Address, Presentation Title; 140-character abstract for program; A/V or other equipment needs, Learning Objectives; Narrative; and Presentation References.

 

Proposals, including all information listed above, should be saved as a.pdf file, or any standard word processing format.  Proposals should bee-mailed toproposals@oregoneval.org.
