July 18, 2019 @ 9:15 am - 10:45 am

Presenter: Kari Greene, Senior Evaluator at The InQuire Group

Location: Northwest Health Foundation, Ramona Soto Rank Room, 221 NW Second Avenue, Suite 300, Portland, OR

Qualitative data analysis (QDA) can be steeped in academic jargon and opaque terms, leaving some evaluators with a sense of mystery and uncertainty around the actual QDA process. Publications cite the “constant comparative method” or “grounded theory approach” in their methods section but often fail to describe the particular analytic steps.

Evaluators need explicit and transparent explanations of analytic procedures to use QDA methods confidently with community-led and participatory projects. And community members deserve to be part of the analytic process, helping to make meaning of their data.

This 90-minute interactive workshop introduces a rigorous approach to QDA used with community members to co-create meaning from various types of qualitative data. Participants will experience the approach in small groups, building on the analytic steps and debriefing between activities.
